Software Trainer

OmniUpdate has an immediate opening for a Software Trainer to train customers and employees on web development practices and template development for the OU Campus CMS system. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished and energetic trainer, both in-person and remote, of enterprise-class web software packages or computer science curriculum. Excellent writing experience in technical instruction is a plus for this mid-level position. Out-of-state and possible international travel is required and is approximately 20% per year. When not traveling, this position is based in our Camarillo, California office and is not a telecommuting position.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Maintains subject matter expert knowledge of OU Campus™ web CMS technology ‒ proficient in its functionality, features, and limitations; well-informed of OmniUpdate’s new features and releases.
  • Conducts training for web content management system (CMS) technology both in-person and via webcast for a broad range of technical understanding among users.
  • Maintains and promotes a positive image of OmniUpdate and OU Campus™ including its functionality, features, modules, limitations, departments, and employees.
  • Works with Director of Customer Success and the Marketing department to develop and conduct training for the user conference, including training the supporting staff.
  • Provides product and new hire training to OmniUpdate staff.
  • Creates and conducts new trainings as needed, including, but not limited to, New Hire and subject-specific trainings, such as Calendar and Live Delivery Platform.
  • Gathers clients' technical requirements, needs, and expectations by consulting Project Management Office and School Leads.
  • Disseminates information as well as discusses technical issues that arise with the Professional Services and Customer Support departments.
  • Provides post-training customer feedback to Support, Development, and Professional Services teams.
  • Plans training prior to and during training sessions based on general correspondence, evaluation of learning styles, and awareness of expectations and needs. Verifies all requirements met prior to scheduled training sessions to ensure successful training sessions. Adjusts training delivery as needed.
  • Develops and updates training video modules, which may include planning a storyboard, scripting, recording, and facilitating screen capture and screencast.
  • Develops complex presentations, including PowerPoints, in an understandable and concise format.  Breaks down complex features into easy-to-learn and easy-to-grasp concepts.
  • Performs regular research for continuous learning of industry knowledge and trends.
  • Works with Technical Writer to create, identify, define, and develop new training methods for improving content and format of onsite and web-based delivery methods.
  • Coordinates training schedules by consulting with project managers. Books onsite travel as needed in accordance with Travel Policy.
  • Supports the Technical Writer with creating documentation, writing, and consulting to ensure that training materials are focused on the needs of the clients.
  • Works with VP of Customer Success to review and update presentation and training materials.
  • Works with Customer Support to test and document new features.
  • Uses effective writing, verbal, and presentation skills in composing written materials, responding to emails, and regular interaction to solve work related problems and concerns.
  • Additional tasks as assigned.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • 1-2 years of software/computer science training, demonstration, and support experience
  • Experience with one-on-one and group training both in-person and via web conference delivery
  • Animated but professional presentation style with proven ability to command the attention of a room and keep participants excited and captivated
  • Excitement for and drive to be the face of OmniUpdate and available as a go-to person for internal staff and external clients
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to develop and give complex presentations to a range from novice CMS users to IT professionals in an understandable and concise format
  • Experience with different learning styles and a great flexibility in working with different personalities and experience levels
  • Excellent writing skills with experience in both print and online output
  • Strong passion for learning and teaching software, especially web-based and web-development type software
  • Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects
  • Technical self-starter with strong drive to learn both from instruction and through self-teaching
  • Excellent work ethic and strong intellectual curiosity with a high-energy, professional and exciting approach to training and presentations
  • Strong working knowledge of web design, web development, and related tools
  • 4-year degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
  • Flexibility in schedule for travel and accommodating clients across multiple time zones

  • Familiarity and experience working with enterprise-level CMS software
  • An understanding of and experience with the needs and expectations of universities and colleges
  • Experience developing training materials
  • Experience with screen capture and recording software
  • Experience with webcast systems
  • Web development experience with a working knowledge of HTML/CSS, XSL/XML, JavaScript, and/or server-side languages
  • Understanding of IT architecture, database design, and application server installations
